Debian Has Turned 17

Print

Debian-OpenLogoDebian is one of the mature projects that is driving on the world of Open Source projects. Linux is not the only operating system kernel supported by the project. Debian supports a large number of architectures and hardware starting from embedded systems, including desktop workstations, netbooks and notebooks right up to servers in clustered environments.

The Debian project was founded by Ian Murdock on August 16th, 1993. At that time, the whole concept of Linux distributions was new and a lot of other projects did follow.

Within the last 17 years Debian did bring together more than 1000 contributors from many corners around the world. Documentation has been written in various languages and ten thousands of software packages have been assembled to build the Debian distributions.

Within the last several years the outputs of the Debian sub-projects have been picked up by other open source projects and enterprises to build a number of specialized Linux distributions.

We would like to thank the Debain project for the great work and best wishes for the future!
